Grading System

The Laurel High grading system is based on “points”, with one point being awarded for each class session and/or effort equivalent to a class session.
For instance the highly motivated student could, by attending class, pursuing outside work and receiving extra points, complete a one-year course in much less time. By the same token, the student who is more challenged by the material is not in danger of failing a course because their progress takes longer than the semester or school year allows – their points are carried forward cumulatively to the next grading period.

240 points is equivalent to a letter grade of “A”
204 points is equivalent to a letter grade of “B”
170 points is equivalent to a letter grade of “C”

Students are expected to earn an average of 40 points  per week during the school year.
